Ukhrul: Hopingson A Shimray from Kamjong District has been appointed as the vice president, Bharatiya Janata Party, Manipur Pradesh on Monday felicitated by the Manipur Pradesh BJP President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi in a gathering of party workers, supporters and well wishers.

Hopingson A Shimry (MCS & IRS Retd.) who was the former Tangkhul Naga Long president, and former Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (1983-84), the apex civil bodies of the Tangkhul tribe is the first person to ascend to such a high political chair from Phungyar Kendra. He was also elected as general secretary of All Manipur Tribal Students Union Delhi in 1980 during his Post Graduation studies in JNU New Delhi.

Stating his thanks to J P Nadda, National President BJP over his appointment, Hopingson A Shimray said, “I am truly humbled to receive the appointment letter as Vice President Bharatiya Janata Party Manipur Pradesh. I express my heartfelt gratitude to Sh. N Biren Singh Ji, Hon’ble Chief Minister Manipur for his blessings and I thank to all the members of Bharatiya Janata Party parivar of Manipur Pradesh under the leadership of Smt. A Sharda Devi respected President and other Party leaders namely, Sh. N Nimbus Vice President, Sh. L Deben, General Secretary, Sh. Premananda Meitei, General Secretary, Shri Vikram Secretary and others for according me a warm welcome as one of their colleagues. I consider this as a rare opportunity and privilege to be a part of such a grand organisation like Bharatiya Janata Party.”

Expressing his commitment and responsibility, stating that it is a privilege to serve the party, the newly appointed vice president further said, “I will leave no stone unturned for the growth and success of the party in our State Manipur.”

Hopingson A Shimry was born on 1st March 1959 at Marou Village then in Ukhrul District in a humble family whose parents were jhum cultivators. He has one elder brother and two younger sisters. Marou being a small village having about 15 households at that time attended his initial education from the village primary school up to class II. Thereafter, in order to pursue higher classes he had to leave his family and parents and got himself admitted in Ukhrul Model High in 1967 in class III and studied up to class V in the same school. In search of better school for Class VI and VII he studied in Sacred Heart High School, Hundung, while class VIII was completed at Sirarakhong Ruichumhao Memorial High School, for class IX and X he studied at Churachand High School Imphal.

Hopingson A Shimray officially joined the BJP party to contest from 43-Phungyar Assembly Constituency in October 16, 2021 after he resigned as president of the Tangkhul Naga Long.
