Imphal: Thousands of women took to the street across the valley districts of Manipur and formed human-chains defying the curfew and chanted ‘save Manipur from narco-terrorists’ slogan on Saturday night.
The women staged the human-chain protest on the streets in response to a call given by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI).
The COCOMI organized the event while alleging that the grievances of the people affected by the ongoing violence in the state remain unheard by the concerned authorities.
Earlier, COCOMI had announced that human chains would be formed in areas inhabited by the Meitei across the globe on Saturday night to make people aware that ‘what Manipur is facing right now is narco-terrorism’.
A large number of women came out on the streets across the twin capital districts of Imphal East and Imphal West and chanted slogans like “Save Manipur from narco-terrorists, Save territorial integrity of Manipur, abrogate SoO truce with the militants violating the ground rules, etc.”

No untoward incident related to the protest was reported till the time of filing this report even as it was simultaneously carried out defying the curfew.
The curfew relaxation period for the day was from 5 am till 5 pm.
A spokesperson of the COCOMI alleged that the state has been in turmoil for over 45 days, with violence perpetrated by narco-terrorists and illegal immigrants.
Despite knowing the fact, the Central government is still remaining silent without taking any action against the perpetrators, he also said.
“We have also urged Union Home minister Amif Shah to take action against the perpetrators. However, the Central government is yet to take up any action,” he said.
The attitude of the Central government has deeply hurt sentiments of the people and to show the globe, the human chain protest was being carried out, he further said.
“Let the globe know the prevailing crisis in Manipur, ” he added.
He claimed that similar protests were also carried out in Meitei inhabited areas across the globe.
