Agartala, Aug 12: A missing person complaint filed just two days ago has led to the arrest of two men and the detention of a husband for questioning in connection with the brutal murder of a 45-year-old housewife who had been missing since July 28, with her decomposed body recovered from a dense forest area in South Tripura’s Belonia Sub-division.
The victim, identified as Kana Debnath Das, was allegedly murdered by two men who were reportedly hired by her husband, Raju Das, for Rs 50,000. Police recovered her decomposed body from dense jungle in the Kashari area near the South Tripura District’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) office in Belonia under Jatrapura Police Station on Tuesday morning, following an intensive investigation that began when her daughter Prity Debnath, filed a missing person report at Belonia Women Police Station.
The South Tripura District Superintendent of Police, Mourya Krishna C, confirmed the developments to Ukhrul Times, stating, “The day before yesterday, a missing complaint was registered, based on the complaint police team started investigation and identified three main accused involved in the case.”

“We have information that a person was hired for the murder, and we have found many pieces of evidence from there. The investigation is ongoing,” Mourya added.
Similarly, Belonia Sub-divisional Police Officer Rishabh, IPS, provided additional details regarding the case progression. He told Ukhrul Times, “We received a missing diary that was first registered at Belonia Women Police Station, and the police staff started the investigation.”
“On Monday, we arrested the first accused involved in the case, and in the early hours of Tuesday, we arrested one more accused; both have been sent to court this evening. We have also detained the victim’s husband for questioning,” Rishabh added.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Dulan Das (28) and Mohammad Miah (35), a resident of the Muslim Para area under Rajnagar Block in South Tripura District. Raju Das, the victim’s husband, has been detained for questioning.
However, officer Rishabh confirmed that Raju is the victim’s second husband and emphasized that the case has just started, and further investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, during interactions with media personnel, Miah reportedly made significant admissions regarding the crime. He told the media, “The victim came with us of her own choice to the spot in the Kashari area, and we killed her with a sharp knife and later threw it into the Belonia river.”
Miah also accepted on camera that “The victim’s husband gave Rs 50,000 for both of us, and Dulan received the money directly from the victim’s husband.” When questioned by the media, Miah claimed, “We knew each other from political activities.”

According to sources, Dulan had previously contested in the municipal elections as a Trinamool Congress candidate. The investigation revealed that Dulan Das, who resides in Ram Thakur Para area in Belonia, was allegedly acquainted with the victim and reportedly lured her from her residence through phone calls before taking her to the Kashari jungle location.
The case has created significant concern throughout the locality, with police continuing their investigation into what appears to be a calculated contract killing. Police sources confirm that authorities utilised phone location verification techniques during their investigation, which led to the swift arrests on Monday night. Following interrogation, the accused were taken to identify the murder site, and the victim’s daughter was subsequently informed for body identification purposes.
The forensic expert team has been notified and is examining the evidence collected from the crime scene. Police officials have indicated that the investigation remains active as they work to establish the complete sequence of events surrounding this alleged contract killing case.
