Kohima, May 7: A significant stride towards promoting public health and community development was marked with the inauguration of the iconic Outdoor Gym Project at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on Tuesday. The event was graced by Dr. Tseilhoutuo Ato Rhütso, MLA of the 9th Kohima Town Assembly Constituency, who served as the chief guest.

In his keynote address, Dr. Rhütso emphasized that the facility was conceived with the well-being of the public in mind. “This facility is for everyone,” he stated, calling upon citizens to actively participate in societal development rather than depend solely on government initiatives.

The MLA also announced a forthcoming public initiative titled “One Rupee for Change,” aimed at encouraging citizens to contribute ₹1 daily towards Kohima’s development. A dedicated bank account will be created for this purpose, managed by a committee to ensure transparency and efficient fund utilization for city maintenance and improvement.

Dr. Rhütso further stressed the importance of safeguarding public assets and cultivating a collective sense of responsibility among residents.

Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, who also spoke at the event, lauded the initiative. “Health is wealth, and this initiative will greatly benefit our community,” he said. Commending Dr. Rhütso’s visionary leadership, the DC described him as “an inspiration,” and urged citizens to commit to a cleaner and more prosperous Kohima.

The project also includes the installation of fitness equipment at the Mental Hospital in Kohima, aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being among patients and caregivers alike.

The inaugural ceremony began with the unveiling of the commemorative stone by Dr. Rhütso. Pastor Sounyi of CRC Manipur offered the invocation and blessings.
