Ukhrul, May 7: In a bold and precision-led operation, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the early hours of Wednesday, targeting key terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir. The pre-dawn strike comes in response to the recent barbaric terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Defence, Indian forces struck nine (9) specific locations believed to be central in orchestrating cross-border terrorism against India. These sites were carefully chosen to avoid escalation, with no Pakistani military facilities targeted.

“This was a focused, measured and non-escalatory operation,” the official release stated. “India has shown restraint in both the selection of targets and the execution of the mission.”

The government has reiterated its resolve to bring the perpetrators of terrorism to justice. “We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for the Pahalgam attack will be held accountable,” the statement added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to X, “Proud of our armed forces. Operation Sindoor is Bharat’s response to the brutal killing of our innocent brothers in Pahalgam. The Modi government is resolved to give a befitting response to any attack on India and its people. Bharat remains firmly committed to eradicating terrorism from its roots.”

India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh early morning before the attack on Wednesday took to X in Hindi, saying, “Long live Mother India!”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said he is “monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely,” on Wednesday.

Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary in a live press briefing on Wednesday morning said, “As you all know, on April 22, Pakistani and Pakistan-trained terrorist, associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, launched a barbaric attack on tourists in Pahalgam. 25 Indians, and one Nepali citizen were cowardly murdered. This is the most serious incident since 2008 Mumbai attack considering that fact the civilians were attacked.”

He further said, “Upon investigating the Pahalgam terror attack, communication between terrorists and Pakistan has come to light. On the basis of eyewitnesses and investigation by other agencies, attackers have been identified as well. Pakistan has emerged as safe haven for terrorists in the world. Banned international terrorists find it safe from being punished in this country. Pakistan is also known for deliberately misleading the world and international platforms.”

More details are expected during an official briefing on Operation Sindoor later today.

Sources say that the Home Minister Amit Shah has ordered chiefs of paramilitary forces to call back their personnel who are on leave.

It is worth noting that India achieved a decisive victory in the 1971 war, leading to the creation of Bangladesh. In the 1999 Kargil conflict, India successfully reclaimed territory infiltrated by Pakistani forces. The earlier wars of 1947–48 and 1965 ended in stalemates, with both sides claiming limited successes. Today, India maintains a conventional military advantage, with larger manpower, a bigger defense budget, and more advanced technology.
