Imphal Comes to a Standstill: Shops Shut and Public Transport Scarce as Meitei Leima Protests Kuki-Zo Rally

IMPHAL, AUG 31: Normal life in Imphal was thrown out of gear today owing to the Meitei Leima’s call for “public cease work” to protest against the ‘nationwide Kuki-Zo rally’ which was organised today.

In response to the appeal made by the Meitei Leima, shops and other business establishments in Imphal, including Khwairamband Keithel, Thangal Bazar and Paona Bazar remained shut.

Major markets in Greater Imphal, such as Lamlong Keithel and Singjamei Keithel were also closed.

Attendance in government offices was also reportedly low. In addition, there were very few public transports plying on the road.

However, some of the business establishments were seen opening in the evening.
