Ukhrul: The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Ukhrul District called off its planned nationwide rally, which was scheduled for Saturday. The rally was organized in response to a recently leaked audio tape implicating Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.

The rally was initially set to start from Zalengbung Village and conclude at Shangkai Village, under Litan Police Station in Ukhrul District. However, KSO Ukhrul decided to cancel the event at the last minute after extensive discussions within the organization and in consideration of the sentiments of other student bodies. The decision was made to maintain peace and harmony in the district.

In its press release, KSO Ukhrul stated, “After deliberate and extensive discussion, we have decided to withdraw the rally to ensure a healthy environment within the KSO Ukhrul jurisdiction. Henceforth, no other authority will exercise power within our jurisdiction. We urge the general public to refrain from any activities that could harm our relationship with the concerned community.”

It is also reported that no public rally took place in Kamjong, Tamenglong, Noney and Chandel headquarters.

The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), the apex student body of the Tangkhul community, had earlier appealed to KSO Ukhrul, KSO Kamjong, and the Kuki Women Union (KWU) to withdraw the rally in the interest of maintaining peace in the district.
