Imphal: Hundreds join ‘Sunday On Cycle’ to tackle Obesity

Imphal, April 13: Promoting fitness, community spirit, and a healthier lifestyle, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), North East Regional Centre, Takyelpat in Imphal, in collaboration with the SAI Special Training Centre, Khuman Lampak, Imphal, successfully held another edition of Sunday On Cycle this morning under the rallying theme, “The Fight Obesity Revolution.”

The event, flagged off from Citizens Club, Soibam Leikai, Wangkhei Khunou, drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 200 cyclists, spanning professional athletes, armed forces personnel, club members, and individual fitness enthusiasts from across the region.

Dr Mayengbam Veto Singh, Director of Youth Affairs and Sports, officially inaugurated the ride, joined by several dignitaries and cycling advocates. Among them were Padma Shri awardee and Olympian weightlifter N. Kunjarani Devi, CRPF GC Langjing Commandant, Citizens Club President Naorem Mahendra, SAI STC Imphal Centre In-Charge Maibam Ramani Chanu, and cycling influencer Rohan Philem.

The 10-kilometre ride wound through picturesque routes of Imphal, spotlighting the campaign’s core message: combating obesity through active living. Participants included members of the CRPF Mahila Battalion, approximately 50 riders from Royal Humbers of Tera Bazar, representatives from the Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association, and various cycling clubs.

Having launched on December 22, 2024, Sunday On Cycle continues to gain momentum as a recurring community initiative, inspiring the public to embrace physical fitness and proactive health awareness.
