Imphal-Ukhrul Heli Services to Operate Saturdays and Mondays

Ukhrul: The Imphal-Ukhrul-Imphal Route, Manipur Heli Service under the auspices of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will now be operational on Saturdays and Mondays, announced authorities.

The announcement came during the launch event of the RCS Service of Tamenglong and Jiribam on Wednesday. “After careful consideration, the Transport Authority of Manipur has decided to extend heli services to the residents of Ukhrul District on Saturdays and Mondays,” revealed Airport Director Chipemmi Keishing.

The Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik, abbreviated as UDAN-RCS, is a regional airport development initiative by the Government of India, aimed at enhancing connectivity in under-serviced air routes. Under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), efforts include establishing Greenfield airports and upgrading existing Brownfield airports.

The inauguration of Pawan Hans Limited helicopter service at Imphal by the Chief Minister of Manipur marked a significant step towards improving air connectivity in the region. The flag-off ceremony at the airport, attended by Airport Director, Director of Transport, and General Manager of Pawan Hans Ltd., along with various Heads of Departments (HoDs) and stakeholders, signaled the commencement of RCS-UDAN routes for Jiribam and Tamenglong.

Following the launch ceremony, the heli service for Jiribam and Tamenglong was officially inaugurated at Imphal airport today.

For ticket bookings at Imphal airport, individuals can contact Manipur Heli Services at +91 97749 77856, with a permitted luggage weight of 10 kgs per passenger.

Initially, flights will operate once a week, specifically on Saturdays. However, authorities have expressed willingness to adjust the frequency based on passenger demand, hinting at a potential increase in operations in the future, said Airport Director.
