UT News Service | IMPHAL, Aug 22: The Manipur government has expanded sample collection teams and district surveillance teams in Imphal West district, one of the twin capital districts of Manipur that has been emerging as COVID-19 hotspot in the state.

The district has the highest number of COVID-19 cases among the 16 districts of the state, with 1125 including 34 fresh cases detected in the last 24 hours. Most of the cases detected in the last few days were locally transmitted cases, an official source said.

Considering the alarming rise in the locally transmitted cases in the district, the Health authorities have expanded the sample collection teams by deputing 25 more doctors. The district surveillance team has also been expanded, the official source added.

“Tackling Covid requires alertness to evolving scenarios,” the control room stated while asserting that the surveillance team was regularly monitoring Covid situation in the district.
