UT News Service | IMPHAL, Aug 22: A senior Congress legislator in Manipur on Saturday called for a concerted effort to fight the surging cases of COVID-19 in the state.
“Let’s leave behind politics and fight together the pandemic. Only then can we overcome the challenges ahead of the people of the state,” Congress MLA Govindas Kongthoujam said.

The senior Congress legislator was talking to reporters after installing automated hand sanitizers in crowded market areas in Bishnupur district.

He then appealed to authorities of the state Health department and district administration to work together in coordination. “Only then the surging cases of COVID-19 in the state can be checked,” he opined.

The Congress leader then drew the attention of the state government to rectify the lack of cooperation among the frontline workers of the pandemic.

“For the sake of people, the state government needs to address these lapses in the fight against the pandemic. Otherwise, the situation in the state would be worsened despite the best efforts of the government,” he said.

The senior Congress leader also said that now is not the time to play politics. “The need of the hour is the joint efforts of all the legislators and political parties while leaving behind the differences”, he said.
