UKHRUL: The Department of Posts has temporarily suspended mail movement on the Imphal–Dimapur, Imphal–Mao and Imphal–Ukhrul routes with immediate effect, citing the prevailing security situation and recent incidents of postal consignments being set on fire.
An order issued on July 29 by the Office of the Superintendent of Post Offices, Manipur Division, said the decision was taken following instructions from the Chief Postmaster General, North East Circle.
As per the order, the suspension affects the three mail lines connecting Imphal with Dimapur, Mao and Ukhrul. The Department has also suspended the booking of all surface mail until further orders.

The order has been circulated to the Imphal Head Post Office and other postal offices in the Manipur Division for necessary action.
The suspension follows repeated disruptions to mail transportation along National Highway-2. In recent weeks, postal consignments were reportedly burnt during incidents linked to the ongoing unrest, leaving a large volume of undelivered mail stranded at post offices.
Ukhrul Times had earlier reported that postal services had been severely affected after trucks carrying mail could no longer move safely along the highway. Postal officials had then said articles were accumulating at various post offices as dispatches to Nagaland and hill districts remained disrupted.
With the latest order, the Department of Posts has officially suspended surface mail movement on the affected routes until the security situation permits the restoration of services.
