Indian Climate Activist Licypriya Kangujam seeks crowdfunding to acquire Thermal Drone to aid in ‘entering war’

Licypriya Kangujam, the 12-year-old climate activist from Manipur who recently burst on to the stage at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai on Thursday took to her official Facebook handle requesting her followers and supporters to help acquire a “thermal drone” to aid in the current conflict in Manipur.

Licypriya wrote [translation]: “Even though rich people can’t, we will definitely buy the Rs 7 Lakhs worth thermal drone in couple of days. We have received report that entering war in the evening without thermal drone has brought problems. Entering war blindly increases casualties. Thermal scanning the areas beforehand will be highly beneficial’. ‘As per public request, those willing may donate/contribute to my PayTM/ PhonePay/ GPay 6009059349.”

Following the intense Wednesday incident in Moreh which claimed the lives of two Manipur Police Commandos and a Kuki-Zo woman, sources say more than 10 different places in the adjoining areas of Imphal West District and Kangpokpi District were reportedly attacked by armed Kuki-Zo groups on Wednesday night. In the ensuing attacks, one person said to be a village volunteer was killed, while another sustained injury at Kangchup hill.

Lamshang Police personnel have collected the body of the deceased and deposited at RIMS morgue, sources say. The injured volunteer has been admitted at RIMS hospital.
