Ukhrul, May 12: The Trained Nurses Association of India, Ukhrul Branch, Manipur, observed International Nurses Day 2025 at TTA Smart Training Hall, Hamleikhong, Hungpung, Ukhrul.
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12 to commemorate and honour the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.
Dr. Nelson Vashum, Director of CHSRC, attended the occasion as chief guest. “This day is observed to honour the service and contribution made by nurses in the healthcare system. It is a challenging profession, and one must endure to overcome all challenges,” stated Dr. Nelson Vashum.

Lanmila Ningshen, Principal of Rosella Nursing Institute, spoke and elaborated on the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future. Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies.” She focused on nurses’ health and well-being and highlighted the critical role of a healthy nursing workforce in supporting the overall healthcare system.
Award declarations and presentations to the best nurse were announced by Dr. A.S. Kapangring, CMO, Ukhrul. The Best Nurse Award was declared and presented to Raingamla K. Shimrah. She has served in this profession since 1993 and has completed 32 years of service. Presently, she is serving as a nurse at CHSRC, Ukhrul.
The lamp lighting ceremony and nurses’ pledge were led by Dr. Nelson Vashum. The nurses present took the Florence Nightingale Pledge.
The presidential address was delivered by Shimray Wungreichon, President, Trained Nurses Association of India, Ukhrul Branch, Manipur.

Retired nurses presented a special skit item, highlighting the kindness of nurses and also the other side of nurses who are arrogant and lack compassion. The skit was demonstrated to remind the nurses about their role and responsibility while performing their duty. Special performances by Penmi & Group and famed Tangkhul artist Thotsemphi Luithui added more colour to the observation.
