UKHRUL: The Centre’s Jal Jeevan Mission has succeeded in providing all households and schools in rural areas of Mizoram with tap water connections, officials stated on Wednesday.
The main aim of this scheme was to provide adequate drinking water on long-term basis to every rural household and public institution. The success with Mizoram marks a major for the state and the country.
The update was shared at a meeting of the State Water and Sanitation Mission Apex Committee, chaired by Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena, which reviewed the progress of completed and ongoing works under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Officials informed that functional household tap connections have now been provided to all rural households, schools and anganwadi centres across the state.
Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena, emphasised the need for close coordination among all concerned departments to effectively implement and sustain the water supply projects.

Officials further stated that a total of 852 projects were taken up under the mission in Mizoram, all of which have been completed, resulting in universal tap water coverage in rural habitations.
The meeting also examined challenges encountered during implementation and discussed steps to address operational and maintenance concerns to ensure the long-term sustainability of the schemes. Stress was laid on strengthening inter-departmental coordination to improve implementation and monitoring.
