Japhou Women Development raided illegal local wine dealer shop within Japhou village jurisdiction in Chandel.

Japhou Women Development, is a society comprising mostly of elderly mother’s and young women of Japhou village, Chandel. The society strikes for welfare and development of Japhou women.

The society conducted an emergency meeting on Sunday at Japhou community hall. The meeting thoroughly deliberated on ‘Nisha Bandh’ and others at the backdrop of rising substance abuse particularly ‘selling local wine openly’ by non-Japhou denizens within the Japhou village jurisdiction. The early warning and issuance of notification by the Japhou Women Development by words and letter to stop selling and creating constant nuisance within the Japhou village jurisdiction were pay no heed by the wine sellers. This has compelled the Japhou Women Development Cell to take action upon the wine sellers. After the Sunday meeting, despite heavy rain, the women group comprising mostly elderly women and mothers marched to Ringkum colony located just adjacent to Japhou village main gate entry point, which is just a stones throw away from Japhou Bazaar, the district headquarters.

As per information and thorough knowledge of the know about of the wine dealer and seller, two ladies namely Minwar and Peningthung, both from Khongjon village were cordoned off by the visiting women group. During the searched at both residence, more than 200 bottles of local brewed wine imported mostly from Pallel side were found and confiscated. Minwar ran away after seeing large presence of women and as situation escalated. The confiscated local wine bottles were immediately burnt down near the road side in the presence of Japhou village authority leaders and youth club members.

As per Japhou Women Development source, “For too long this particular people and place has indulged in shady businesses despite strong warning from us”. Even such warning and reminder by their own Ringkum colony elders and leaders were not taken seriously by the two individuals in the past. Japhou Women Development leaders were therefore, compelled to take such action on Sunday after drawing a unanimous consensus during the meeting. Japhou Women Development sincerely appreciate Japhou women fellowship and Japhou village authority leaders for their cooperation and support. Such activity by outsiders within Japhou jurisdiction should be stopped at the larger public interest and for good cause, it stated. The Japhou village authority is learnt to take up necessary action upon the two individuals following the Sunday late afternoon incident.
