Jiribam on the Edge again: Houses Torched Despite Security Presence in Ongoing Violence

Published on

In a series of violent incidents in Jiribam District, located westward at the extreme corner of Manipur state, armed miscreants targeted properties in Borobekra Sub Division at around 2:30 am.

A house owned by one Bishnupriya in Harinagar was allegedly destroyed using explosives by the armed miscreants during the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Shortly after, another house belonging to a Bishnupriya resident in Mukhangthol near Butangkal, as well as a farmhouse owned by a Meitei in Goakhal, were set on fire.

Despite the deployment of CRPF and Assam Rifles personnel in various Meitei villages within Borobekra Sub Division since the ethnic clashes in relatively peaceful Jiribam District which erupted on June 6, such attacks persist. The continued violence has resulted in the destruction of several homes in remote areas of the district.
