Khliehriat: Action Taken as Banks Defy Holiday Order to Honour Lt. MP Ricky Synkon

SHILLONG: The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) shut down several banks in Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills district in Meghalaya on Saturday.

The banks failed to observe the public holiday dedicated to honoring Lt. Shillong MP, Ricky AJ Synkon. The initiative led by the President of Khliehriat Circle, Shanborlang Bamon and accompanied by Symboh Baiar Sume along with JNC Lakseiñ Circle’s President Iamonlang Deiwi Suchiang, strongly called on all banks to duly recognise and observe important occasions, especially at a time when the State is mourning the loss of a national leader.

Syngkon was participating in a friendly football match at Mawlai Mawiong when he unexpectedly fell on the field, reported those present at the time. He was immediately taken to the Mawiong Community Health Centre for emergency intervention before being referred to Dr H. Gordon Roberts Hospital in Jaiaw for further treatment. Despite medical efforts, he could not be saved.

The shutdown was carried out peacefully, with JNC members stating that the move was intended to respect public sentiment and ensure institutional accountability, not to provoke confrontation.
