Imphal: Manipur government has decided to handover the crime case of Seigunlal Misao, a student of Damdei Christian College who was shot dead by unidentified armed persons in Kangpokpi district, to National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday.
In a press statement issued by the police department, it stated that the state government has decided to hand over the investigation of Case FIR No.11(3)2023 of Gamnom Sapermeina Police Station to the National Investigating Agency for expeditious investigation and early disposal of the case in public interest.

A 17-year-old Seigunlal Misao was shot dead allegedly by two motorcycle-borne unidentified gunmen near his home on March 26 night. Later, the National Revolutionary Front Manipur, a militant group, accused the student to be a ‘drug peddler’ while taking responsibility for the killing.
Following the incident, student community of Kangpokpi district under the aegis of the JAC had staged a series of sit-in-protest in the district, including the deceased native’s village Motbung. The protestors demanded justice of Misao and pressed the state government to nab the perpetrators as the earliest. They also condemned the allegation leveled against Misao as a drug peddler and stated as baseless and groundless.

According to sources, chief minister N Biren Singh met the family members at his secretariat in Imphal on Sunday and handed over the ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh as assured by him earlier.
Moreover, the family members has agreed to accept the body of the deceased which is currently kept at RIMS morgue on Monday after the state government has granted all the demands put through by JAC in regards to the teen’s murder case, it said.

The proscribed National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) in a press statement alleged that the deceased victim was involved in selling of narcotic drugs to students for a long time, despite warning the victim to stop his illegal activity. The victim ignored repeated warnings and continued with his illegal activity, it had said.
