Ukhrul: The 25th edition of Katho Katamnao Long (KKL) general General Conference cum Sports Meet 2024 kickstarted on Wednesday at Nungou Aze Village under the theme “Heritage of Oneness“. Katho Katamnao Long is a conglomeration of 22 villages from Ukhrul and Kamjong Districts.
The inaugural programme was attended by Wungnaoyung Sayai, Central Administrative Officer (CAO) of Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) as chief guest and Ngazipmi Chahong, Geologist, Geological Survey of India, National Geoscience Awardee as guest of honour.

Speaking at the occasion, Wungnaoyung Sayai lauded the President and colleagues of Katho Katamnao Long for taking the right decision of hosting the 25th General Conference cum Sports Meet 2024 at Nungou Aze. “May this celebration bring unity and understanding between the Kathonao and through this event, may we strive together for a better tomorrow. Let this celebration also invoke the spirit and commitment to serve the society and nation at large. May we be a change to bring unity and development in all spheres in the Tangkhul community,” added Wungnaoyung Sayai.

Guest of Honour, Ngazipmi Chahong called for rebuilding the the area. “In order to be a progressive society, we must invest in producing more resourceful people. We should also focus in strengthening the families and our way of life as a Christian. When we have a strong family and good education facilities, there will be great positive impact in the growth of our society. Governance at the village level to the highest body should be for the welfare of the people only then we can excel in every field. With people participation, we should aim for delivering justice equally. Media influence should be regulated and used in the right direction. The role of the media cannot be undermined in this fast changing world. Businessmen or entrepreneurs should be encouraged and policy should be framed for equal opportunity for everyone,” said Ngazipmi Chahong.
President of KKL, Mashungmi Zingkhai appealed to the people of Katho area to unite and extend support for the betterment of the area. He emphasised that “Katho Longnao should lead the way in building their own destiny for a better tomorrow. We should be a responsible Kathonao that would contribute in bringing changes to the society. Let us step with a new mindset while preserving our culture and tradition. We should focus on retaining our identity by reviving our culture and tradition.”

While unveiling the monolith, AS. Nganaomi, Pioneer of KKL stated that “during 1981-82, seven educated Kathonao came together and founded the Katho Katamnao Long to safeguard and promote the identity and culture of the area. “I appeal to the younger generation to carry forward the aims and objectives of KKL with the same zeal. This is a training ground for the youngsters to mold and shape for the greater cause of the nation,” he said.
Nungou Aze village consisting of 38 houses and Nungou Aze Katamnao Long are hosting the 25th edition of Katho Katamnao Long General Conference cum Sports Meet 2024. A total of 17 units of Katho Katamnao Long consisting of 815 delegates are participating in the event that will conclude on January 29, 2024.
