UT Correspondent | UKHRUL, AUG 23: The District Magistrate on Saturday declared the Quarantine Centre at Cane & Bamboo Training Centre, Khaivarentang in Ukhrul town as a containment zone after 8 inmates belonging to 27th Assam Rifles, Somsai tested positive for Coronavirus.
According to an official source, following receipt of the test reports on Saturday, the 8 Covid19 positive AR personnel were immediately evacuated to the Covid19 Care Facility at ITI, TM Kasom which is reserved for the AR personnel only.Â
The 8 Covid19 positive inmates were among the 98 AR personnel who underwent rapid antigen test (RAT) on the same day. The security personnel were staying at the quarantine centre through an order from the district magistrate since 11 August last.
The latest detection has swelled the number of Covid19 positive cases among the security forces in the district to 115 including AR personnel from Somsai, TM Kasom and Litan Shareikhong.
The quarantine facility at the C&B Training Centre was subsequently brought under containment zone with immediate effect through an order from the district magistrate on Saturday evening.
The containment measures included initiating active surveillance of COVID 19 cases, along with sealing of the geographical area, barring entry and exit of population from the containment area, closure of school and public gatherings and restrictions on vehicular movement in the area.
The order also directed Ukhrul police for immediate enforcement of the containment measures with perimeter control of the containment zone/area, which would also entail submission of day to day situation report.Â
Meanwhile, in another order, the district magistrate has revoked the orders of containment zones of 6th MR Camp, Phungreitang and Pettigrew College Quarantine Centre, BIock-B.
“These containment zone orders are hereby revoked as all the close contacts in these containment zones have been tested/retested and found negative,” the order which was issued on Saturday, said.
