SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Delhi unit has rescued a young woman from Meghalaya who was being trafficked and allegedly assaulted by a group of men, allegedly involved in a brothel, at her residence in Delhi.

Marbiang Khongwir, president of the KSU Delhi unit, said, “We received a distress call from the woman’s sister, who reported that her sister was being harassed and assaulted by a group of men in her residence. We immediately alerted SPUNER and the Malviya Nagar police, who reached the location and rescued the woman.”

Khongwir said that upon investigation, it was revealed that the woman had come to Delhi seeking employment but was coerced into the flesh trade. The accused, who was running a brothel, allegedly assaulted her when she refused to work.

“The man who assaulted her is running a brothel. Just because she refused to work, she was assaulted and the man threatened to kill her,” Khongwir said.

Both the victim and the accused are currently in police custody. The KSU Delhi unit said it is working with the authorities to ensure the woman’s safe return to her home state after completing the necessary legal procedures.

Khongwir urged the government to take strict action against human trafficking and exploitation.

“We urge the government to take strict action to prevent such incidents in the future,” he said.

The KSU Delhi unit also appealed to the public, especially those seeking employment, to be cautious and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
