Ukhrul, Feb 1: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has vehemently condemned the Manipur State Police Cyber Crime Division for its “appalling and politically motivated” actions against human rights activists.

In an official statement, the apex body of the Kukis in Manipur stated that the ongoing search and hounding of activists affiliated with the Kuki Organisation for Human Rights (KOHUR) was a brazen attempt by the Manipur government, under Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, to silence voices speaking truth to power and expose his corrupt and tyrannical regime.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur stated that the unlawful harassment came in the wake of the “leaked audio tape of N. Biren Singh”, which exposed the Chief Minister’s blatant abuse of power.

“Instead of addressing the allegations and answering for his misconduct, N. Biren Singh has chosen to misuse state mechanisms to persecute those who dare to question him. By weaponizing the police force, particularly the Cyber Crime Division, N. Biren Singh has demonstrated how he chooses to take the law into his own hands, shield his misdeeds, and exploit state resources for political and communal suppression,” the body said.

It also stated that the hounding of social activists and human rights defenders, especially those who had courageously spoken up for the Kuki-Zo people, is a stark reminder of the ongoing ethnic persecution at the hands of the Meitei-majority administration. This targeted harassment is aimed at erasing and suppressing the suffering of the Kuki-Zo people, who continue to endure relentless violence, displacement, and state-sponsored oppression, it added.

The body categorically denounced the ‘cowardly’ tactics of intimidation and called upon all citizens of the nation to recognize their duty to uphold the sanctity of the Constitution and take a collective stand against ‘these imminent threats’ to its integrity. The tyranny of N. Biren Singh and his regime must not go unchallenged. The Kuki-Zo people, and indeed, the entire nation must stand in unwavering opposition to the authoritarian stranglehold imposed by the Meiteis-led Manipur state administration, it said.

The Kuki Inpi Manipur further demanded an immediate end to the political witch-hunt and called for the Government of India to hold the N. Biren Singh-led Manipur State government accountable for its oppressive actions.
