IMPHAL/UKHRUL: Two Kuki MLAs attended the Manipur Legislative Assembly in Imphal on Tuesday, marking the first time Kuki MLAs have been physically present in the House since the conflict broke out in May 2023.
Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing and Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen arrived at the Assembly complex to attend the eighth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, which began today.
Kuki MLAs have stayed away from Assembly proceedings in Imphal since the outbreak of the conflict more than three years ago.
Their physical presence comes months after six Kuki MLAs attended the Assembly’s budget session virtually through video conference on March 9, 2026.

Chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh had then described their virtual participation as a positive step towards normalising the situation in the state.
The two MLAs are attending Tuesday’s session despite the Kuki Inpi Manipur issuing a statement urging all 9 Kuki MLAs not to attend the Assembly session.
