“As we await the official statement regarding the cause of death, we firmly believe that her life and the violence she endured should not be minimized or swept under the rug. We strongly urge the authorities to conduct a transparent and swift investigation into the circumstances of her death. If foul play is involved, we demand justice and caution against any attempts to cover up the truth. Delayed or denied justice would not only betray the victim but also erode public trust in the justice system and our organizations. Every life matters, and accountability must prevail,” stated Zo Women.

Reaffirming its commitment to advocating for women’s safety, empowerment, and justice, the Zo Women has called upon society at large to stand in solidarity with all victims of domestic violence and abuse, ensuring that there is a safe space for them without judgment, regardless of their background or identity.

Notably, the Zo Women’s Movement, along with various civil organizations, including the Zomi Mothers’ Association and the Young Vaiphei Associations, recently condemned two separate incidents involving suspected sexual assaults and a murder in Churachandpur.

On March 20, a minor girl who had been internally displaced was found dead in Churachandpur, with injuries suggesting she had been sexually assaulted. Then, on April 4, another 10-year-old girl from Chandel, who was living in Churachandpur, was allegedly sexually assaulted and subsequently admitted to the district hospital.

The alleged perpetrator of the later case, reportedly a juvenile from Zion Veng in the Tuibong Sub-Division of Churachandpur, was apprehended by the Manipur Police during a search operation conducted on the same day. Condemning the incidents, they stated that society had become increasingly unsafe while urging responsible citizens to join in combatting these evils.
