Ukhrul: A program on prime minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with beneficiaries of various public welfare schemes under Garib Kalyan Sammelan was also held at the premise of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ukhrul District, Indian Council for Agricultural Research, Manipur Centre on the May 31. It was the largest single-event nationwide interaction spanning across all the districts virtually and talking simultaneously about the various schemes, programmes and their impact on the people’s lives.
“It is very good that KVK is conducting various programs to make farmers aware of the schemes given by the government,” said K. Chuihaola, chairperson, Kaziphung SHG Federation, as a chief guest of the event.
Around 60 farmers from various villages attended the program. The program started with a welcome address by P.A. Ramsem, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Soil Science, ICAR-KVK Ukhrul. Head i/c ICAR-KVK Ukhrul, N. Ajitkumar Singh and Yirmeila Zimik, SMS–Agronomy, ICAR-KVK Ukhrul addressed the farmers on the importance of various prime minister’s schemes of the government of India.
“Though the amount of PM- Kisan is not much, it is very helpful for many farmers. They buy seeds and plant them which become a good investment as they reap a bigger amount from the harvested crops which greatly help to sustain their livelihood,” said Yirmeila.
Speech of prime Minister’s interaction with beneficiaries of various schemes and programmes of the government of India was telecasted and followed with a vote of thanks from Somaya M, farm manager ICAR-KVK Ukhrul.
According to Dr Solei Luiram, head of KVK Ukhrul, many programs have been conducted to make the farmers aware of the benefits given by the government. “Programs such as ‘Kisan Bharidari’ was also organised by KVK Ukhrul on May 28 at Ngashantang, and ‘Kisan Mela and Farmers Scientists Interaction, Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari Campaign under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav 2022, was jointly organized by KVK Ukhrul and PD/ATMA Ukhrul at KVK Ukhrul on April 26, 2022. As a part of the celebration of reaching 75 years of India’s independence, the government is working very hard for the benefit of the farmers’ community by organising various workshops, seminars, programs and campaigns before reaching its 100 years,” added Solei.
Speaking at the function, chief guest said, “Farmers need to work together for mass production and marketing of horticultural crops.”
“Let’s be diligent in farming to be self-reliant and achieve economic sustainability. I also want to encourage the farmers to adopt new farming technologies provided by the related departments,” said Paothing Vashum, Executive Member, ADC, as the Cheif Guest of the function on the occasion of Kisan Mela & Farmers Scientist Interaction.
Unique public programs were organised in state capitals, district headquarters and in KVK centres across the country to commemorate the completion of eight years of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM addressed Shimla and said Seva Sushan and ‘Garib Kalyan Sammelan’ have changed the meaning of government for the people. His government has started empowering the poor from day one and working to build a new India. The government is trying to give a permanent solution to the problems, which were earlier assumed to be permanent. 100% empowerment means ending discrimination and appeasement and every poor gets full benefits from the government schemes. Various schemes address the pressing needs of the poor such as housing, potable water supply, food health, nutrition, livelihood and financial inclusion with the help of technology, the scope of corruption has been minimised. Direct Benefit Transfer put an end to the injustice of pilferage and leakage by removing 9 crores of fake names from the benefits rolls.

Agriculture minister, Tomar Narendra Singh said, “In the field of agriculture, concrete work has been done to raise the production and productivity of the farmers, promoting the use of technology and to ensure that farmers get a reasonable price for their crop. PM Modi wants that farmers should move forward. Their income should be doubled and farmers adopt crop diversification. The cost of farming should come down. Hence, a campaign has been launched and crores of farmers are getting benefited. PM Modi also emphasized natural farming. Over time, we should reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and promote natural farming, produce healthy food, so that people remain healthy, our products can also fetch a good price, and the quality of production should be such that it meets global standards. With this point of view, we all have to move forward in the field of agriculture.”
“The interaction will explore the possibility of convergence and saturation of these schemes and allow assessing the citizens’ aspirations for India as it completes 100 years of independence in the year 2047,” said ministry as per the reports on NewsOnAir.
Three farmers- Soyao Longleng of Paorei, Rinsemla Tungshang of Langtang, and Mark Muinao of Luireishimphung village from Ukhrul District were felicitated by KVK Ukhrul for their innovative farming activities, which was also followed by input distribution to three SHGs- Ningrin SHG from Ukhrul and 2 SHGs under Kaziphung SHG Federation on Kisan Mela and farmers scientist interaction day. The programme was concluded with a technical session where farmers and scientists interacted on various farm problems.
