Landslide in Jiribam District Claims Life of 8-Year-Old Girl

Jiribam: A tragic landslide in Jiribam District resulted in the death of an 8-year-old girl and injured at least four others in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to sources, the landslide occurred in Ahmedabad Part 1 under Sonapur Gram Panchayat, where debris fell on a house, killing the young girl and injuring four people. One of the injured, a minor, is in critical condition and is being treated at Silchar Medical College in Assam.

In a separate incident, another landslide at Chandranathpur Ward No. 3 under Latingkhal Gram Panchayat damaged a house but caused no casualties. Jiribam district has been experiencing heavy rainfall since yesterday evening, which contributed to the landslides.

Local authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions as heavy rainfall is expected to continue. Relief and rescue operations are underway, and efforts are being made to provide assistance to the affected families.
