Ukhrul, Mar 27: The Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M), the apex body of the Liangmai Naga tribe, unequivocally asserts that Maremei is a Liangmai village with well-defined traditional boundaries that have existed since time immemorial. As per Liangmai customary law, land is communally owned, and no individual has the authority to sell land or enter into a Compromise Deed or Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) within Maremei’s territory.
However, despite this fundamental principle, the GPRN Secretariat Kilo Affairs, through its orders 1. No. 23-31/24-25/DIRCT/MKA/GPRN (dated 15th October 2024), 2. No. 42-09/23-25/ORDR/MKA/GPRN (dated 12th November 2024), and 3. No. 23-49/24-25/DIRCT/MKA/GPRN (dated 14th March 2025), has acted in total defiance of Liangmai Naga customary and traditional laws, which was nothing but an outrageous and blatant attempt to obliterate the existence of the undisputed Liangmai traditional village from the Tahamzam (Senapati) areas.

Despite this, R.K. Remping unlawfully colluded with Lengkhomang Chongloi, the Chief of Kuki Taphou, on 21st May 2022, signing a “Compromise Deed” and a “Memorandum of Agreement (MoA)” without the consent of the Maremei Village Authority and its people.
Furthermore, on 10th January 2025, 11 houses belonging to innocent Maremei villagers in the Senapati District were vandalized. Subsequently, on 12th January 2025, cadres of the NSCN-IM (Maram-Thangal Region) launched a brutal attack, committing sexual harassment against six innocent women. This heinous act was carried out in collaboration with R.K. Remping and his grandsons, R.K. Roland and R.K. Roshan of Senapati District.
In response to these grave injustices, the house unanimously resolved in the annual Assembly of Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur Resolution No. 6, Clause (c) Due to the NSCN-IM/ GPRN subjugation and distrust towards the Liangmai people, we are left with no choice but to protect our rights and ancestral land. Consequent to the above stated activities of the GPRN to ignore the existence of the Marenmai village the LNC has been compelled to impose a ‘No Tax payment stance’ to the GPRN/NSCN-IM in Manipur, effective immediately, on 25th March 2025, at Ariang Khunkhu Village, Kangpokpi District until all the arbitrary and biased orders are withdrawn by the Kilo ministry.
