Lightening strike kills buffalo, critically injures 11-year-old boy at New Maram

Senapati: Amidst monsoon rain and inclement weather, lightening strike killed a male Buffalo on the spot while an 11-year-old boy was critically injured on Sunday afternoon.

The boy identified as Khi Rocky son of K. Phuba is studying in Class IV at Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School.

Khi Rocky was reportedly rushed to district hospital, Senapati but later referred to RIMS hospital, Imphal due to medical complications.

According to family sources, the 11-year-old is presently admitted at RIMS emergency ward and placed under medical observation for complaints of dizziness, fatigue and suspected internal injuries.

According to villagers, the incident took place when the boy was playing football in the village ground with other boys and many spectators were watching the game. The lightening struck the boy unconscious for sometime before his elder brother rushed to pick him up and rushed him to Senapati DHQ hospital.

A buffalo grazing nearby the football field was killed on the spot while another buffalo escaped the lightening strike without any harm.

The unfortunate incident happened at New Maram village under Lairouching sub-division in Senapati district. A veterinary team from Senapati DHQ is said to have rushed to New Maram village during the filing of this report.
