UKHRUL: A sudden thunderstorm killed a man on the spot and seriously injured another in a forested area of Churachandpur on Sunday, officials reported on Monday.
As the two residents of Vengnuam village, belonging to the Kuki-Zo community, were gathering vegetables near Buallian village, the heavy rainfall forced them to take shelter under a large tree. Lightning struck, killing Goukhanmung (39) instantly and leaving Phungzalian critically injured.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across Northeast India over the next five days. Thundersqualls, with wind speeds of 50–60 kmph gusting up to 70 kmph, are likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Monday and Tuesday, while isolated heavy rainfall is expected from Monday through Friday.
