Lions club of Imphal Excellence organises free mega surgical health camp in Ukhrul

Ukhrul: Lions club of Imphal Excellence is organising a Free Mega Health Surgical Camp and Awareness on Drug Abuse and Career Counseling Programme in Ukhrul from October 6 to 7.

The surgical camp with cervical cancer screening and free eye test is being conducted at Ukhrul District Hospital. Awareness on drug abuse and career counseling programme is organized at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School and St Joseph College in Ukhrul.

Over 20 major operations like gyny, ortho and other surgeries are being registered. Free eyeglass frames with minimal charge on lens will be provided to 400 and more registered patients.

Around 60 members came from Imphal including specialist, resource persons, technician and more for the free mega surgical health camp. All the equipment required for the surgeries are bought from Imphal.

Speaking at the mega health launching event, Reisangmi Raikhan, medical superintendent of district hospital Ukhrul thanked Lions club Imphal excellence for their initiative, and urge to organise more such event in the days to come for the benefits of the people.

Admitting that surgical operation is the main focus of the camp, Raikhan stated that all the expenses, medicines and equipments were all brought from the state capital Imphal and has benefited the people of Ukhrul immensely.

He also expressed his gratitude to Leishiphung Christian Hospital and Comprehensive Health and Research Hospital Ukhrul (CH& RH) for their support towards the initiative.

David Kashung, President Tangkhul Naga Long appreciated the Lions club and also urged them not to end their service here but if possible go to the villages as there are many who cannot travel to get treatment.

Dr. Soreingam, president of the Lions Club Excellence Imphal while thanking district hospital Ukhrul especially the incumbent Medical Superintendent for his committed concern and making the camp a grand success, lamented the absence of machines to conduct surgical operation in the district.

“I am very grateful to the Lions club and everyone who took part in organization such program. The doctors took good care of my son and they took care of everything, even buying medicine. We are able to get treatment for free”, said a mother from Shakok village.

Around 300 students attended the Awareness programme conducted in Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School.

Lions Club of Imphal Excellence, although it is an international club, it is not foreign aided, non-governmental funded or non-profit club. The members are like minded people who desires to give service to the society. Their main motto is “to serve”.

The programme was attended among others by district governor 322D governor, TNL president and executives, TMNL and THYSO.
