Imphal, October 30: The Republican Party of India (Athawale) Manipur State Committee president Maheshwar Thounaojam has said that the time has come for the people of Manipur to rise above party politics and focus on the real issues affecting the state.
Speaking to media persons here in Imphal today, Maheshwar said that several groups and individuals have already begun their preparations for the 2027 elections, turning every issue into a political agenda. He added that the current political climate has diverted attention from important public concerns.
He pointed out that crucial issues such as the demand for protection of indigenous people, the recommendation for Meitei ST status, the free movement along national highways, and the hardships of internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been overshadowed by political rivalries.
Maheshwar accused certain groups of using sensitive topics like separate administration for political gain, holding protests in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar instead of working for reconciliation in Manipur. “Instead of finding real solutions, they are turning these issues into vote-bank politics,” he also said.
The RPI leader then stressed that every citizen must understand the difference between political propaganda and genuine public welfare. “If voters allow themselves to be misled by party politics, the real issues of Manipur will never be solved,” he cautioned.
