Makhan Village Authority Slams False Abduction Claims, Warns Against Provocation

Kangpokpi, October 10: The Makhan (Makhen) Village Authority has strongly refuted claims by the so-called Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) alleging the abduction of Kamginlen Chongloi from Makhan Liangmai Naga village. In a press statement, the village authority said the allegations are “entirely false and without foundation.”

The statement noted that upon learning of the alleged incident, the people of Makhan and neighboring villages immediately condemned the abduction. However, the authority emphasized that no one approached them for information or clarification, as per tribal tradition where the victim’s party is expected to consult the local landowners or village authority.

According to the Makhan Village Authority (VA), reliable accounts indicate that Chongloi was briefly detained by an Army ROP team for suspicious activity and later handed over to the Sekmai Police, who transferred him to Gamnom Sapermeina Police Station, a version reportedly confirmed by authorities. Despite these facts, CoTU continued to circulate statements, including a press release dated 4th October 2025, alleging that the abduction occurred “at Makhan” and the victim was “taken to Khurkhul”, claims the VA called “entirely baseless and irresponsible.”

The statement also expressed concern over CoTU’s call for additional “security preparedness” in the buffer zones, stressing that Makhan Liangmai Naga Village and other Naga villages in the foothills have maintained strict neutrality in the ongoing ethnic conflict since 3rd May 2023. The community has reportedly provided humanitarian assistance to all communities, allowing free and safe passage through their territory.

Warning CoTU against further provocations, the Makhan VA stated: “Do not mistake our silence for weakness. We will not tolerate false accusations, provocations, or any attempt to drag our peace-loving community into conflict.”

The statement further alleged that CoTU’s hidden agenda may be to push for the deployment of Kuki police or armed presence in the area by maligning Makhan and surrounding Naga villages. The VA stressed that any militarization or encroachment on their lands without consent will be met with resistance, noting the area is already secured by the 57th Mountain Red Shield Division at Leimakhong, BSF Battalion at IGNTU, CRPF at Leikhampokpi, and other central paramilitary forces stationed at Konsakhul and Singda.

The Makhan Liangmai Naga community reaffirmed its commitment to peace and coexistence while asserting that it will firmly defend its dignity, rights, and territorial integrity against any provocation or falsehood.
