Man accused of raping 16-year-old Minor arrested in Ukhrul

A 67-year-old Jonathan Khongreiwoshi, accused of raping a minor girl from Ukhrul district was arrested by Ukhrul police and have been sent to police custody for 6 days.

Based on the statement given, a rape case under the Indian Penal Code Section 6 of the Protection Of Children From Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 & 506 and FIR No. 3 (8) 2021 has been registered for further investigation.

The accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class on Saturday within his 24-hours of arrest. The accused will be produced for second judicial remand after 6 days of arrest, an official said.

An officer said that the accused went into hiding but was napped by combined teams of Ukhrul PS lead by SI Marchang and Police Reserve Line on August 13 late night in connection with the case at Hatha village. Upon preliminary enquiry the accused has admitted to raping the minor.

The victim was allegedly raped since the month of December 2020 repeatedly by the accused 67-year-old who threatened the minor of dire consequences if the case was revealed to anyone including her family. It was only when her pregnancy became evident that the father of the 16-year-old minor lodged a complaint at Ukhurl Women Police Station on Friday.
