Man Killed In Police Firing After Attacking Personnel In Assam’s Sivasagar

UKHRUL: In Bar Diroi village of Assam, an intoxicated man was killed in a police firing when he tried to attack the security personnel on duty settling a family dispute in Sivasagar district of Assam, an officer said on Wednesday.

According to the official, “One person identified as Ranjit Pandav (42) was creating a nuisance in an inebriated state in the area. A local couple—Martin Pandav and his wife—went to pacify him. However, they were attacked with a machete,”  PTI reported.

Villagers informed the police. The personnel then arrived at the location. “Seeing the police, the person chased them and tried to attack the personnel with the machete. In self-defense, police had to fire one round at the person,” the official stated.

The three injured persons were admitted to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh where the attacker was declared dead due to bullet wounds. The couple is still under critical condition undergoing treatment, the official added.

Allegedly, the deceased used to torture his wife and five children who were at a relative’s house at the time of the incident.
