Imphal: Five rifleman of the 5th Manipur Rifles attached to Bishnupur commando sustained injury, while one rifleman was killed during an encounter between Manipur Police and suspected Kuki militants.
According to sources, the firing took place at Bishnupur District’s Tronglaobi Maning Leikai and Terakhongsangbi Maning Leikai under Moirang Police station.
The gun-battle between the commandos and the suspected armed Kuki militants lasted from 6 am till 3 pm on Thursday. The commando personnel team was patrolling when they were ambushed.
The deceased rifleman is a 37-year-old, Heisnam Jiten from Thanga Meisnam.
The injured personnel are identified as Md. Islamuddin (46) from Thoubal Moijing, S. Ojit (51) from Heirangoithong, Mohammad Rajauddin (45) from Yairipok and Chetan Meetei from Kakching, and one other commando whose identity is not known yet while filing this report.

In another such incident on Wednesday, one jawan of the Assam Rifles sustained injuries from shots fired by suspected Kuki armed cadres. The paramilitary forces were reportedly fired upon while patrolling a hill range in Pukhao Terapur Dolaithabi Dam area under Imphal East.
