Imphal: Three top leaders of BJP Manipur Pradesh – president A Sarda Devi, caretaker chief minister N Biren Singh and Th Bishwajit Singh – who were in Delhi after being called by the party high command returned to Imphal today.
The BJP leaders ridiculed media speculations regarding the reported naming of the leader of the legislature party of BJP. “No decision on who will be the next chief minister of the state was taken by the party high command. The leader of the legislature party will be named only after a meeting of the newly elected MLAs along with the central observers”, said one of the leaders upon arrival in Imphal airport.
A charter flight took the three leaders together in Delhi on March 15 amid an intense speculation over the post of next chief minister of the state. However, they returned in separate flights today. Bishwajit returned alone while Sarda and Biren returned together in another flight.
Media speculated that they were called by BJP central leaders in connection with the issue of naming the leader of the legislature party. However, the three leaders rubbished the media reports and said that they visited the national capital only to take part in the party’s post poll review meeting.
Manipur unit BJP president, A Sharda Devi said that the party’s Parliamentary Board appointed central observer Nirmala Sitharaman along with co-observer Kiren Rijiju will be visiting the state soon in connection with the issue of the leader of the legislature party.

Caretaker chief minister N Biren Singh also said they were in Delhi to attend a post poll review meeting chaired by BJP national president JP Nadda. The meeting reviewed and discussed the outcome of the recently concluded elections in Manipur and strategies to improve the party’s performance in the next Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024. He added that a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Board was also convened during their camping in Delhi. They did not attend the meeting as it was only for the members of the board. Besides, they do not know whether the board meeting discussed the selection of the leader of the legislature party or not, he added.
While rubbishing the reports of certain sections of media regarding the post of the chief minister, Biren Singh said that it was only a speculation.
“But, one should know that BJP is a well-organized and disciplined party and whatever the central leaders decide, we will welcome it,” he said.
Biren Singh then urged the media not to publish or broadcast reports based on speculations which can create misunderstanding among the public as well as among the party leaders and workers.
MLA Bishwajit who arrived earlier also told reporters that the central leadership will decide on the new legislature party leader. He also said that “nothing” related to the matter was discussed during their camping in Delhi. However, he added that the meeting with the central leaders in New Delhi was to celebrate the party’s victory in the recent assembly elections.
