Manipur Congress Leaders Urge Governor to Prioritize Safe Resettlement Amid Crisis

Ukhrul: A team from Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, MPCC led by CLP leader and former Chief Minister of Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh, along with Lok Sabha MP Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, called on Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. The team congratulated the newly appointed Governor and held detailed discussions on the ongoing crisis and hardships faced by the people of the state.

During the meeting, Okram Ibobi emphasised that the crisis in Manipur can only be considered resolved when displaced individuals currently living in relief camps are able to safely return to their original homes. The Congress leaders highlighted the severe challenges faced by internally displaced persons, including instances of suicides, and stressed the need for urgent measures to prevent further tragedies.

The delegation, which included MPCC President Keisham Meghachandra, Deputy CLP Leader K. Ranjit, CLP Chief Whip Th. Lokeshwar and Congress MLA Surjakumar Okram assured the Governor of the Congress Party’s full support in restoring peace and normalcy.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Okram Ibobi disclosed that the Governor responded positively and expressed his willingness to work collectively to resolve the prevailing unrest. The Congress delegation urged the state leadership to expedite peace efforts and implement measures that would ensure the safe resettlement of displaced individuals, ultimately restoring stability and harmony in the state.
