Manipur Congress seeks clarification from Manipur govt over its BJP MLA Paolienlal Haokip’s alleged remark of dividing state into 3 UTs

Imphal, August 1: The Congress party in Manipur on Tuesday raised strong opposition to the alleged demand for dividing Manipur into three union territories.

BJP MLA Paolienlal Haokip had reportedly made a demand for dividing Manipur into three union territories.

Addressing the media at Imphal Congress Bhavan today, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice president Hareswar Goswami who is also the chief spokesperson of the party demanded that chief minister N Biren Singh and the BJP Manipur Pradesh to clarify on the matters.

He strongly reacted to media reports of BJP MLA Paolienlal Haokip’s alleged remark on dividing Manipur into three Union territories to end the prevailing crisis.

Some section of media on July 31, quoted the BJP MLA from Saikot assembly constituency of Churachandpur district as division of Manipur into three union territories as the only solution to the present turmoil.

The Congress strongly condemned the remark of the BJP MLA who was among 10 Kuki MLAs who raised the separate administration demand in the wake of violence in the state.

Paolienlal Haokip was one of the signatories in a ‘press statement’ signed by 10 MLAs demanding separate administration issued on May 12, 2023.

“Even as the 10 MLAs and its alliance challenged the territorial integrity of Manipur, the BJP and its government in the state are yet to take up appropriate actions against them”, the MPCC vice president said.
