Manipur government announces ex-gratia of COVID-19

An ex-gratia assistance of Rs 50,000 each shall be provided to the next of kin of the deceased due to COVID-19 subject to cause of death being certified as COVID-19 death, the notification stated. The assistance will be provided from the state disaster response fund.

Imphal: Manipur government announced ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 each to the next of kin of the deceased due to COVID-19 in a notification.

A notification issued by the Rlief and Disaster Management on December 16 was made available to the media on Saturday. It was issued in pursuance of the “Guidelines for ex-gratia assistance to next of kin of the deceased by COVOD-19” issued by the National Disaster Management Authority on September 11 last. An ex-gratia assistance of Rs 50,000 each shall be provided to the next of kin of the deceased due to COVID-19 subject to cause of death being certified as COVID-19 death, the notification stated. The assistance will be provided from the state disaster response fund.

The families of the deceased will have to submit their applications along with documents to the District Disaster Management Authority. The District Disaster Management Authority will disburse the ex-gratia assistance to the next of kin of the deceased person. The concerned families have to submit their claims through an application form or claim form issued by the state Disaster Management Authority along with specified documents. The application forms can be had from the office of the deputy commissioner who is also the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

The district administration will notify and depute officers as required for release of the ex-gratia assistance to the next of kin of the deceased by COVID-19. The payment will be disbursed through Aadhar linked direct benefit transfer producer, the notification said. It added that the district administration will ensure final payment “through a robust yet simple and friendly procedure.”

In Manipur, COVID-19 has claimed 1,995 lives till date.
