Manipur govt issues advisory regarding stormy weather

Imphal: Manipur government through district administrations on Tuesday issued an advisory to the general public to remain alert and take necessary precautions to avoid the loss of life and property in view of the severe cyclonic storm “Remal”.

The advisories stated the severe cyclonic storm Remal which may accompany with rain and squally wind gusting up to 55 KMPH over the state of Manipur starting from May 26.

It also cited the weather bulletin of Indian Meteorological Department on Monday that issued an orange alert for the entire state of Manipur.

One of the public advisories issued by Imphal East deputy commissioner advised the general public to stay informed and keep themselves updated with the latest weather forecasts and warnings issued by local, state, and national authorities.

“Ignore rumors, stay calm and do not panic. Reinforce doors and windows, and secure loose objects. Prepare an emergency kit with essential items such as non -perishable foods, water, torchlights, first aid supplies, medicines, etc. for safety and survival,” it asked the public.

It further advised children and elderly to stay indoors and do not come out of the house unless under unavoidable circumstances, to keep emergency contacts handy and stay away from vulnerable structures, unattached metal sheets, banana trees, papaya trees etc.

Agriculture and other related activities may be postponed till the weather condition improves.  Avoid going to areas that face water logging problems often, it added, while providing emergency contact numbers.
