Manipur police seizes huge quantity of drugs

Manipur police on Sunday seized a huge quantity of illegal drugs with the arrest of an alleged drug peddler. The seized contraband drugs included 2.20 lakh pieces of WY tablet and 17 packets of heroin (No. 4) powder.

A team of Imphal East district police recovered the huge quantity of drugs from a Tata Magic vehicle. 

The driver identified as Md Atltap alias Amuba (27) of Sora Ching of Kakching district has been arrested.

Imphal East SP Dr Jogeshchandra Haobijam said that the contraband drugs were intercepted by a team of police at the tri-junction of Thiyam Road under Irilbung police of the district on Sunday, around 3.10 pm.

He said that the police team who rushed to the spot based on specific information intercepted the vehicle moving in a very suspicious manner.

They stopped the vehicle and conducted a thorough checking and found the illegal drugs concealed in the vehicle.

During the checking, 22 packets wrapped by brown colour plastic and containing 50 blue colour packets and 17 packets wrapped by black colour plastic containing one soap case each were detected.

On further checking, the 22 packets turned out to be WY tablets and the total number of pieces was 2,20,000 and the 17 soap case to be Heroin powder, he said.

On spot verification, the arrested driver disclosed that he drugs belonged to one Md Wahidur of Sora Ching, same village with him (driver), the police officer claimed.

The arrested person along with the recovered drugs has been handed over to Irilbung police station where a case has been registered, he informed.
