Manipur ophthalmologist Prof Rajkumari Vidyarani named ACOIN National Lady of the Year 2025

UKHRUL: Prof. Rajkumari Vidyarani, professor and head of the department of ophthalmology at Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Sciences (JIMS), Imphal, has been invited to receive the “ACOIN National Lady of the Year 2025” award by the Association of Community Ophthalmologists of India (ACOIN).

The award will be conferred during the ACOIN Silver Jubilee 2026, the 25th International Assembly of Community Ophthalmologists and the 16th Annual Conference of ACOIN, scheduled to be held at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, New Town, Kolkata, from September 24 to 27.

In a letter dated September 14, ACOIN invited Prof. Vidyarani to accept the award in recognition of what the association described as her “sincere, dedicated & lifelong community eye health care services in Indian Subcontinent.”

According to ACOIN, the organisation has more than 1,600 members from almost all states of India and abroad and works towards advocacy in community eye health care services in the Indian subcontinent. The association said its activities include annual meetings, continuing medical education programmes and community eye health surveys.

The upcoming conference will also include the 25th International Assembly of Community Ophthalmologists and is expected to bring together national and international community ophthalmologists.

The ACOIN letter stated that Ram Nath Kovind, immediate past president of India, has been invited as guest in chief, while Dr Ram Baran Yadav, former president of Nepal, has been invited as guest of honour. The letter also names Dr Sharodwat Mukhopadhaya, health minister of West Bengal, as special guest.

Prof. Vidyarani has been listed as ACOIN’s councillor representing Manipur in the association’s managing committee for 2023–2026.
