Imphal: With the theme, Festival of Oneness,’ the 11th edition of Manipur Sangai Festival 2022 has been kickstarted on Monday in a grand manner at Sangai Ethnic Park at Moirang Khunou in Bishnupur district. Union Tourism minister G Kishan Reddy inaugurated the Manipur Sangai Festival 2022 in the presence of chief minister N Biren Singh amid much fanfare.

Unlike the previous editions, this year’s Sangai Festival has been projected as one of the biggest festivals, held in 13 venues across six districts till November 30.

According to state tourism director W Ibohal, the Sangai Ethnic Park was constructed at the cost of Rs 45 crore, which is the main venue of Manipur Sangai Festival 2022. The park was inaugurated by chief minister N Biren Singh on the first day of the festival.

Replicas of traditional huts representing 34 different tribes of Manipur being displayed at the park are some of the major tourist attractions of the festival.

Speaking on the occasion, Union minister Reddy who witnessed festival’s fanfare stated “I am lucky to have meet groups of 33 different communities in one place, who have come to represent their communities in the festival.”

Further, chief minister N Biren Singh said that “the festival is celebrated as the ‘Festival of Oneness’ to achieve unity through participation of all indigenous communities of the state and to encourage oneness, sense of belongingness, pride of ownership of the land amongst the people.”

Each tribal traditional huts were displayed the activities and lifestyle being practiced by their forefathers, besides folk dances, folk songs and indigenous games.
