Manipur Sericulture minister hails beneficiaries

During his second field visit to the Seri farms in Imphal West on Thursday, Sericulture Minister Awangbow Newmai Sericulture Minister Awangbow Newmai expressed his happiness with the work taken up by the beneficiaries of the Imphal West. Stating that the beneficiaries had fully utilized the fund allocated under the Integrated Sericulture Development Project (ISDP), he said it was really encouraging to see the hard work of the beneficiaries who had made the work as a profession. He advised the under-performing beneficiaries to fully utilize the fund allocated under the ISDP to generate income of their own.

During the visit, the minister interacted with the beneficiaries and heard their grievances. He also inspected the work taken up by the beneficiaries including the mulberry plants planted in their farms.

The Sericulture Minister said that following his field visit in Imphal West and Imphal East, he had witnessed the problems faced by the beneficiaries. He said he was happy to see new ideas incorporated by the beneficiaries while planting mulberry plants which he said could be promoted for awareness to the other Seri beneficiaries for better production of the raw silk material. He further said that after interacting with the Seri beneficiaries he felt that there was a need for discussion with the officers concerned to chalk out plans to provide additional help to the Seri beneficiaries.

Heikham Dingo, MLA of Sekmai assembly constituency, said that it was a historic moment that the concerned minister was directly visiting the farms of the Seri beneficiaries and addressing to their grievances. Stating that Sericulture is an important Directorate of the State, he said he was immensely happy to accompany the minister during the field visit of the Seri farms in Imphal West since early hours of the morning.

He was hopeful that the visit of the minister would surely give new ideas to strengthen the Directorate in the near future. Stating that the field visit had highlighted the real issues faced by the beneficiaries, he said it was an overwhelming experience to witness the Seri beneficiaries happy while they were being asked about their problems directly by the concerned minister. 

He said as the State depends on the Centre for fund, it is time that the people try to become self reliant. He said it became more important to strengthen resource potential department/directorate like Sericulture so that unemployed people could be given a source to generate their own income as well as to generate revenue for the State. Emphasizing on the development and increase of the output of Khurkhul muga, he said likewise it was also equally important to do the same in other specific areas of the State.
