Imphal: A day after the Pallel incident where Central Security Forces were involved in a scuffle with civilians, Manipur State Cabinet held a meeting in Imphal today and took several decisions.
The Cabinet strongly condemned the actions of Central Security Forces during the Pallel incident, where civilians were allegedly manhandled and resolved to communicate the matter to the central government.

Dr Sapam Ranjan, the Health Minister and Spokesperson of the Manipur Government, briefed the media about the decisions at his residence in Lamphel. He disclosed that the State Cabinet meeting deliberated on appropriate action to be taken against State and Central Forces in the wake of manhandling civilians.
Beginning at 11 am, the Cabinet meeting which covered 30 different agendas, focused on various issues, including resolving the blockade issue on National Highways, constructing new houses under the Permanent Housing Scheme, and resettling displaced victims in their original places. Minister Sapam Ranjan reported that a total of 4,806 houses were either set ablaze or destroyed during the Manipur violence as per police record. He said that the government will build one thousand houses in the first phase.
Under the Permanent Housing Scheme, owners of Pukka houses will receive Rs 10 lakh each, those who had owned Semi Pucca Houses will be compensated with Rs 7 lakh each, and displaced victims with Kutcha Houses will receive Rs 5 lakh each. The compensation will be provided in phases, with half given before construction and the remainder after completion.

Other decisions made during the Cabinet meeting included establishing of Directorate of Medical Education under the Health Department to enhance medical education in the state, reducing the annual fee for the MBBS course at Shija Academy of Health Sciences to Rs 4 lakh, upgrading the Lakhamai Village Primary Health Centre in Senapati district to a Community Health Centre, recruiting 436 Assistant Professors under MPSC, providing a one-time relaxation promotion for MCS officers who were left out in 2014, extending the disturbed area status for another 6 months in areas previously declared as disturbed, and appointing archery player Paonam Lily Chanu as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in Manipur Police.
