Manipur: State govt, ANSAM meeting resolves to suspend agitation, to lift internet ban in 3 working days

Imphal: An emergency meeting between the state government and All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) was held at CM’s bungalow on Thursday in the presence of chief minister N Biren Singh in regard to the matter of internet shutdown in the state. 

The meeting was also attended by education minister Th Basanta Kumar, chief secretary Dr Vineet Joshi and H Gyan Prakash, Commissioner (Hr. Edn) representing the state government.

During the meeting, the ANSAM, an apex Naga students body, resolved to call off the agitation following the chief minister’s assurance to restore internet connectivity in the state within five days (in three working days) subject to an assessment of law and order conditions. However, the agitation will be resumed if the agreement signed in the MoU is not implemented, it said.

Meanwhile, as per the memorandum the state government has also resolved to declare results for the recruitment of 190 (145+45 ST Special Drive) posts of Assistant Professors to be engaged on a contract for one academic session, on or before November 2.

It may be noted that to protest against the blanket ban on the internet and the state government’s inaction on its demands, ANSAM imposed agitation by picketing all government offices in the hill districts.

    It shows government’s inefficiency. Shut down the government.
