UKHRUL: Representatives of the Tangkhul civil society organisations have sought the intervention of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to address the ongoing crisis in Ukhrul district on Saturday.
During a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s secretariat in Imphal, representatives of Tangkhul frontal organisations, led by Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) president Sword Vashum, apprised Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh of the challenges faced by the community amid the ongoing unrest in Ukhrul district.
The civil society organisations attending the meeting included the Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL), and Tangkhul Longphangs.
Additionally, the meeting was attended by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Chingai AC MLA Khashim Vashum, Ukhrul AC MLA Ram Muivah, and Phungyar AC MLA Leishiyo Keishing.
As per reliable sources, representatives of the Tangkhul civil society organisations submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, which included a five-point charter of demands.
Sources revealed that the memorandum submitted by the Tangkhul civil society organisations included a request for the Chief Minister to reconsider and withdraw the recent state government decision to hand over the Thawai case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Additionally, the delegation urged the Chief Minister to deploy adequate state forces along the Imphal-Ukhrul road on National Highway 202, with particular emphasis on the Mahadev to Litan stretch, to ensure security and safety in the region.

The representatives also reiterated their support and commitment to the state government’s initiative to fight against poppy cultivation, added the source.
Meanwhile, on Facebook, Chief Minister Khemchand posted that the delegation of Ukhrul civil society organisations (CSOs), accompanied by the Home Minister and local MLAs, met him at the Secretariat to apprise him of the unrest, tensions, and ongoing developmental concerns in the district.

The Chief Minister reiterated that strengthening infrastructure remains a key priority of the Government, while emphasising that removing impediments to communal harmony is essential for inclusive and sustainable progress.
He further stressed that peace forms the bedrock of all development initiatives, and collective efforts must continue to restore stability and accelerate growth in Ukhrul.
