Imphal: Hundreds of vehicles including Imphal-bound goods-laden trucks were forced to strand midway along NH-37 (Imphal-Silchar road) owing to an indefinite highway bandh.

Affected landowners of 12 villages from Barak to Phaitol village of Tamenglong district imposed the highway bandh.

The affected people have been pressing the state government to release the due land compensation amount with regard to the expansion of NH-37.

The land acquisition for the highway project was done way back in 2013-2014 under the joint supervision of the concerned government departments and in the presence of Land & Properties Owners’ Association (LPOA) and the BRO.

Meanwhile, owing to the bandh, hundreds of vehicles including Imphal-bound loaded trucks and inter-state buses forming from the Assam side were stranded midway, official reports said.

The police also stopped all kinds of vehicles originating from Imphal side midway from further proceeding fearing untoward incidents on the way if bandh supporters attack them.

The bandh continued peacefully with no untoward incident related to the strike on day one.
