Manipur: Two held with illegal drugs worth over Rs. 20 lakh

A combined team of Manipur police and Assam Rifles has arrested two alleged drug paddlers with the recovery of illegal drugs worth over Rs 20.50 lakh in the international market. The two alleged drug paddlers apprehended with heroin powder and WY tablets were identified as Md Ina (33), son of Md Ayajuddin of Hatta of Imphal East district and Md Nurson (20), son of Md Babul Ali of Pangong of the same district.

The combined team of personnel of Narcotic Cell of Imphal East district police and troops of 38 Assam Rifles recovered the drugs which would worth over Rs 20.50 lakh in the international market, said inspector Kh Devkumar, OC of Imphal East police narcotic cell on Wednesday.

Parading the two alleged drug paddlers along with the drugs recovered from their possessions before the media, the police officer said that Md Nurson was apprehended in a follow up operation based on disclosure made by Md Ina. 

The combined team apprehended Md Ina during a frisking and checking operation near a waiting shed at Pheidinga along Imphal-Mao section of NH-2 last (Tuesday) night, around 11.30 pm.

During checking, the combined team recovered 27 gram of heroin powder and 610 pieces of WY tablets from his possession, the police officer also said.

Md Nurson was arrested early Wednesday morning from his home at Pangok, in a follow up action to the disclosure made by Md Ina with the recovery of 80 gram of heroin powder packed in six soap cases during a raid in his house.

As the place where Md Ina was arrested lies within the operational jurisdiction of Sekmai police, he has been handed over with the recovered drugs while Md Nurson to Porompat police station for necessary legal action, the police officer added.

The police officer then said that the operation was launched as a part of ongoing war on drugs and investigation was going to nab other drug peddlers associated with the duo.
